Architecting and delivering the Thrive global design system and integrated events portal to simplify complex scientific engagement for Healthcare Professionals and investors.

My contract with AstraZeneca centred on a critical strategic objective: designing and implementing a high-fidelity UI design system from the ground up. This was not merely an aesthetic task, but a foundational undertaking to ensure consistency and scalability across all global teams and digital products. My remit spanned the entire process, from defining core interaction patterns to delivering the integrated platform itself—the Thrive global meetings and events portal.

The inherent challenge in the pharmaceutical sector is the density of information. AstraZeneca required a platform capable of presenting clinical data, research findings, and live events content to Healthcare Professionals (HCPs) and investors in a way that was both clear and highly engaging. The risk was that overly complex or inconsistent interfaces would lead to poor engagement, resulting in the audience struggling to quickly absorb key scientific insights.

To mitigate this risk, I immediately established a foundational design framework based on user-centred and accessibility-led design principles. I meticulously defined the core UI components, interaction patterns, and visual guidelines within Figma. This systematic approach ensured that every element of the new design promoted optimal usability, reinforced visual cohesion, and achieved strong brand alignment across the entire digital ecosystem.

Through this combination of strategic system design and focused user experience, we strengthened AstraZeneca's connection with its key audiences. By thoughtfully organising complex content and highlighting key insights, the Thrive platform enabled users to absorb difficult scientific information quickly and effectively, positioning the brand as both innovative and approachable in the digital healthcare space.
